~ National League of Junior Cotillions, Orange and Durham County Chapters

We are honored to serve Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, Durham and all students in our area by teaching them basic manners and etiquette that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Pre-Cotillion (K-4th grade) - In a fun environment using skits, games, and songs, students learn to use phrases like please, thank you, and excuse me, greet adults and superiors with respect, learn how to hold silverware correctly, how to set the table, how to behave at a dining table, making friends and sportsmanship, developing social skills, confidence, and good communication, good first impressions and dress, positive body language and eye contact, and how to shake hands correctly.

Junior Cotillion Year I - This class offers once-a-month classes for 5th-6th grade students from October until February. Classes are held on Sundays at the Hampton Inn & Suites, Chapel Hill-Carrboro Downtown. Year I is a mix of etiquette and dance instruction, including the foxtrot and beach shag. Year I will cover topics such as proper seating and escort position, introductions, first impressions, manners in the home, thank-you notes, basic table manners, sports etiquette, cell phone/electronic and social media etiquette. All of these life skills build confidence. Additional topics cover having honor, dignity, respect, accountability, and citizenship. The highlight of the season is the semi-formal Grand Spring Ball.

Junior Cotillion Year II - This class offers once-a-month classes for 6th-8th grade students from October until January. Classes are held on Sundays at Chapel Hill Country Club. Building on traditional social manners, Year II focuses on business and professional etiquette, including social media and email etiquette, sportsmanship, and the art of making powerful introductions and presentations, from personal networking to elevator speeches. Guest speakers will provide real-world insights, helping students refine their soft skills and set them up for future success. The highlight of this program is a Five-Course Formal Instructional Dinner at Parizade in Durham, NC. The students will be guided through each of the five courses with individual attention, providing an opportunity to practice the skills and etiquette they have been learning in an exciting social situation.

Teen Etiquette Dinner (7th-12th grades) - This two-hour dinner is offered twice a year, in April and September. While Junior Cotillion focuses on social graces and formal event etiquette, this session is designed to help students develop professional skills applicable across high school, college, internships, and their future careers. We’ll cover networking, introductions, professional conversation skills, and dining etiquette in a business setting, helping students build confidence in more formal, professional environments while enjoying a five-course meal.
